Diploma geographer and political scientist by profession (University of Heidelberg), Mr. Thomas Hirsch is the Founding Director of Climate & Development Advice. It is a global consultancy network providing services including policy research & advice, strategy development, networking & dialogue, capacity building & project development at the interface of climate, energy and development. In this capacity, he works globally giving lectures, providing training, project consultancy and policy advice. Since 2014, he has published about 40 articles and publications in six languages including ‘Guiding Principles & Lessons Learnt for a Just Energy Transition in the Global South’ (2017), ‘Enhanced Climate Action in Response to 1.5°C of Global Warming’ (2018), ‘Climate Finance for Addressing Loss and Damage’ (2019), ‘Climate Resilience and Pro-Poor Principles for Infrastructure Investments’ (2020), ‘Climate Change, Debt and COVID19’, ‘Build Forward Better’ and ‘Improving Civil Society’s Limited Access to the Green Climate Fund’ (all in 2021). Before founding Climate & Development Advice, Thomas Hirsch served as Development Policy Representative of the German development and humanitarian aid agency Bread for the World, as Finance Director of the human rights organisation FIAN International, as trade policy campaigner at Greenpeace, and as lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology.
